I have that diatom filter, it clogs after 48 hours so you will need to change/recharge it around then. Use pool grade DE not food grade.

Do you ever purchase captive bred fish? They would not have immunity? Would they get disease when they enter your tank?

I don't remember ever having one but they are mostly clownfish and your more common fish that I am not crazy about. I got my Fireclown fish way before they had captive bred anything.

I don't know how they would fare in my tank.

Yes a diatom filter will clog. That just means it removed a lot of gunk.
