just change the water often on a QT and you should be fine. Grab an amonnia badge to be safe.

Welcome. The introduction of ammonia will kick it off, it will be more difficult without anything to host bacteria to complete it.

Will QT only be temporary? I typically use a sponge or some sort of biological filter brought from my DT. Dont suggest using Rock or sand due to medication.

If I start a QT tank without rock or sand will it still run a cycle?
Welcome!

Great question and enjoying reading opinions so far. Glad you joined

IMO, frequent big water changes recommended for QTs. Often there is too much food or something else going on in QT. I bought an ammonia test kit just to ensure it doesn't get out of whack between water changes (I try to change at least some every other day or so)

Thanks everyone so much! I’ll just stick with frequent water Change I’d like to start it off quick to help one of my clowns.

Get yourself some dr tims or microbacter 7. They contain the bacteria you need to process ammonia and basically skip the cycle.

I was going to try to avoid a cycle so that way I can get it going quickly, and possibly save a fish. It’s a 3.7 gal betta tank I made some water it’s at 1.026 and I have a small filter set up. It ran for a day now and I’m wondering if it’s ready for my fish.

Ammonia 0ppm
