Hi everybody,
I would like to dose kalkwasser to increase my PH. I’m currently at 7,7 I would like to reach at least 8. I understand the amount of saturated kalk you can dose is linked to the quantity of evaporated water per day. I have a tank with the lid, so basically very very limited evaporation. Is it possible in this case to dose kalk? Would the quantity of kalk allowed be in this case not enough to reach a tangibile result?
Thanks

You can only dose as much kalk equal to or less than your evaporation rate. I don't really know what kind of pH bump you can get. I dose 7200 ml of kalk daily in one tank but I have never seen a pH bump when tested at the same time as 2 other tanks not getting kalk. I do not monitor pH.

Kalk is meant for alkalinity and calcium with ph being a minor bonus. Unless you're doing so to maintain the first 2 then kalk isn't a good idea.

I agree with top post in that I haven't measured ph in quite some time. If looking to increase then there are much better ways than kalk.

I agree, there could also be air scrubber but I run a tank without skimmer, I cannot use it.

as others said you need to calculate evaporation rate and see if it’s feasible or not. I am only guessing, but an open lid may help with gas exchange and co2 problems slightly (idk).

A good 2 part and dosing all throughout the day would also help your pH to a degree.

As I have no evaporation, would it work if I use some water of my tank to be mixed with the kalwasser and then I dose it drop by drop in the tank itself?

No, it must be made with fresh water. I’d recommend a two part if evaporation is very low.

Sorry Randy it’s not very clear the “two part” to me, meaning double concentration of kalk?
