@minus9 , @wjgeese and everybody else,

A blast from the past. A few of my clams back from the 1990"'s. A lot of these clams were from Tropicorium, Jeff's Exotic Fish and Flying Fish Express. Looking at these pictures really bring back memories of the early days of reefing.

Red Sea Maxima. This guy cost me an arm and a leg. This is side view, the camera back then were bad. Imagine this clam's picture top down.
Clam1997010101RedSeaMaxima.JPG

Ultra Crocea, also side view.

Blue Squamosa (not from 1990's :))

Squamosa from the 1990's. Part of a Derassa and a dead Crocea
Clam1997010102SquamosaDerassaCroceaShell.JPG

Another Blue Ultra Maxima from the Red Sea. This clone of Xenia I still have in my tank
Clam1997010103RedSeaMaxima2.JPG

Two Crocea from the 1990's That Green one was exceptional top down. Too bad I did not have the camera back then to do this clam justice. He is so close to my MH, taken picture that show his best was impossible with the equipment at the time.
Clam1997010104CroceaX2.JPG

My Gigas from the 1990's. I think it was one of the first farm raised Gigas. Maybe not the very first spawned like the one that was at Waikiki Aquarium, but close to it.

Another Crocea of mine from the 1990, along with red Flat worms :(

Awesome! Yeah, I remember Red Sea stuff back then, there were some amazing looking animals. I remember some of those maximas being a powder blue color, which made them stand out even more. Black and white maximas were super cool to see in person.

Wow a whole ton of amazing clam photos just today! So jealous of those blue Squamosa’s, I’m trying to get some here in Japan, CITES is troublesome :(

@OrionN those Red Sea maximas bring back memories, love them. Your fw dip info saved my “teardrop maxima” 20 years ago. I have a crocea you’d die for, I’ll try to get a photo soon. If it weren’t for CITES Id hook you up with Okinawa farmed croceas, they’re your style (and super cheap).

I am glad the FWD protocols I designed help your clams. Pinched Mantle Disease decimated my 30+ clams. I fought with it for years until I was successful with FWD. Up to my eyeballs in it.
It was my hope that the information help other reefers save the Jewels of the Sea like in your case.
Pictures of your Crocea would be great. Something to drool over.

You never seen completely teal green (none that I have seen but never say never in biology). Just pattern of it which is really beautiful. Percentage wise I do not know. Your clams are really healthy and beautiful

John Bui has plenty of these right now. I own one of them. ;) Also remember the Red.Sea maximas. Funny how little variation there is in that region. Most RSM are blue (obv), but have a dark black rim around the edge. Can spot a RSM from a random pic easily. I g9t most of my clams from Aquacon, Barry at clamsdirect, FFExpress, and ReefScience. All of these places are long gone. (incl Barry who passed away, sadly)

A couple photos from today. Out of curiosity, how common are the teal croceas/maximas?

This was my best teal green. It was dark teal green, not turquoise green.
This Crocea mantle was about 50% teal green with metalic gold, black and brown the rest. He was beautiful, rival the pictures pf the mandarin clams' pictures I posted earlier. Even really side we can see the dark teal green with gold clear sharp borders.

Quick and dirty pictures of some of my clams. Crocea are new small clams from ORA via Amazing Aquariums & Reefs thanks to Ali and Jordan. Unedited, none at all, not even cropped.
it is really too bad that I can only keep two of the Crocea I wanted them all, but that would put me into the dog house for ever :(

Two Gigas each with different color. Which is nicer?
IMG_8760.jpeg
Obviously the ultra rare blue maxima gigas hybrids in the back ;)

No but seriously, those two Gigas are just as beautiful as eachother. I prefer the left for sure as it just looks to have a beautiful texture.
