behind display tank 25g ATO container with TV stand as lid. Couldn’t find a lid for it so found this in storage and it’s a perfect fit.

Really nice! I'd love to read more about every thing on that list with lots of pictures and the design principles behind it.

Fits the thread title (ugliest) but surprisingly works very well. The cryptic zone is very new, can't wait to see the results. So far my mixed reef is responding well.

Same here...

You can find my nitrate destroyer and switch in the sky ATO at DIY section. I don't have thread on my barnyard LED system, the rest are quite easy to do. I just removed my forest fire digitata (too big and start shading corals) as freebies. Latest FTS looks cleaner now...

It’s worked great so far. I think I spent like ten dollars to make my ATO. eBay relay, 0.99 cent float switch, 5.99 for a cheap water pump. ;Greedy

I would be interested in a parts list on this. I'm trying to figure out any ATO for my sumpless tank.

Love the tank! And it's really nice to see a gorgeous tank that's not run with fancy top dollar equipment, just some good design principles and cheap materials.

And yes, I started to read about the destroyer, really cool design!

This has been a while ago, but I had an old SCWD and I outfitted it with PVC fittings so I didn’t have to use hose and clamps and cut the top off of it and installed a removable screw top. It was easier to clean it out and fix the door when it got stuck. It was still a piece of junk, but a little better than it was. :)

I couldn't say. I did not use JB Weld on that project. If you are talking about how the PVC fittings are attached, that was done with epoxy putty, which is reef safe and very permanent.

Something more recent... I had a Geo Kalk reactor laying around here for 7-8 years - unused. I wanted to incorporate some Siporax in my new build, but ran out of room in the sump. So, I drilled a couple holes in the lid, installed bulkheads and a little PVC pipe to turn it into a "Siporax reactor" for more biological filtration media. :)

I don’t know if this counts, but I repurposed my baby’s old breast feeding bottles into dosing containers.
We replace them often and noticed they’re perfect for trace element dosing. We normally just throw them away, but now they have some potential.
They come with caps, so all I did was drill a 3/4 hole on the cap, installed a 1⁄4" push connect bulkhead, and inserted a 1/4” stem elbow and voila.

And being that they’re food grade plastic, I don’t worry about them leaching any contaminants. [emoji2]

Repurposing breast feeding bottles into dosing containers for a reef tank definitely counts as ghetto [emoji23][emoji4] I love it! Thanks for sharing!

This is secretly ghetto. No one online would ever know, and most in person wouldn't notice.
First of all I suck at wood working. This tank is in my dinning room so I needed and wanted to make it look at least halfway decent. After a long distance move to my new house I found some scrap wood the previous owners left in the shed and made a hood to hold my lighting. Originally this was going to be temporary but it works fine and I was able to skin it.

The back is just styrofoam to prevent fish from jumping, but the bottom 1x4 was warped enough that there was a slight lip that a firefish or something else could get out. So I stuck an empty can of reef roids to bend it back in shape.

I'll try to post pics later, but my most ghetto thing, so far, is in my fuge.. I was having an issue with keeping my chaeto tumbling. It would get out of the flow. So I took a piece of the glass I had removed from one of the used tanks I am using, and have it propped in the corner to give the algae something to deflect off of to keep it in the flow and spinning.. Works great, but looks about as ghetto as you can get..

Sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to, and that is the only goal when it's ghetto. And yes, bring us pictures!
