Currently, I have a bare bottom tank, I gave my LTA a cup of sand, but he chose to hang onto the glass instead. Seemed happy, but then last night, he yeated himself into the current. . . Anyone had long-term success with these anemones in a bare bottom tank Or should I just bite the bullet and add sand?

Five years I've had this one.
She's been in this spot over a year.
I've had to push her around a few times.
If she moves I shut off the flow and surround her foot with rocks. Seems to do the trick. They need to protect that foot which is usually buried in sand but mine always preferred the rocks. There might be a pound of sand in this tank. None that her foot is in.
