so once or twice a day sometimes none i hear a single loud click, cant find what it is but i have been very carefull to not add any unwanted creatures so i dont know what it is.

tonight i was placing a new coral frag and i have a banded coral shrimp and he used his claws to snap at me..(little jerk), anyway right after he did that i heard the single loud click and it seemed to come from him.

question is, do these shrimp make noise ? could it be him? and are they fine to have in my reef tank? i assume they are good to have since i purchased him from the lfs as part of the clean up crew....

We have one, he doesn’t make noise. We have had a clicking noise and it drove us nuts till we found out what it was. By any chance do you have a chiller?

I have one. Definitely a cool addition to my reef tank. Never noticed him making any noise though.

Btw these little peckerheads are a nightmare if you have any other shrimp in your tank. I gave mine away because he kept going after my fish and killed 3 other shrimp I had

I have one with two fire shrimps and fish without any issues. I see him everyday.

well i was thinking it might be them but when he did it as i had my hand in water and he was not happy i thought it was him... i am hunting down the sound and will continue to keep a close eye. he is definately not a pistol shrimp, but maybe there is one in there.

well, you may be right, i seem to have lost a small firefish and another one has wounds on its side... how do i know what it is as i have been looking for a pistol or mantis but i dont see anything. could it be the emerald crab ? but i still hear the single click (really more of a clunk as it is lower pitch).

i tried looking while the tank is lit and also at night with a flashlight and i dont see anything

I doubt a crab. More of the lines of pistol or mantis. Your fish may give you a clue to location. If the stay away from an area they once went that could mean that is the location of the shrimp. If you see a pile of shells that could be the home of the shrimp
