Time to update this thread again. last july I flew back home for 2 weeks and had a long list of things to do on the tank.
1st was the basement electrical which had become a hazard and an annoyance with many system components added and cables panning back and forth from home to basement. the worst wsa adding the apex half of which is in the basement and some modules up nest to the DT and I wanted my wife to be able to switch to regular plugs from home bypassing the Apex in case it died for some reason, which lead to a ridiculous amount of cabling going back and forth...
37384403182_380e370e2e_o.jpg

took 3 days for those cables to be identified and tagged both near display and in basement and then they were all routed to a new pannel on a wall far from that tank to avoid humidity and water splashes and also make it easier to access and both neater and safer
37393672962_764cda5e41_o.jpg

this tank was used as temporary tank when my tank seam failed, still not sure if i'll convert into a butterfly and angels tank with SPS or just use as frag tank... but at least now wall behind it has no cables anymore.
36744705373_5fb6634889_o.jpg

Also added a power stabilizer to protect return pumps and skimmer from power surges

more than a year ago I also purchased an automatic neck cleaner for my skimmer. finally had the time to install it and over the last couple months I can see improved performance especially that I'm not there to clean the neck every week or so.

Ok - running apex across the room - I want to do this, but how did you get everything from your system plugged into the apex? I am struggling with this right now!
Lots of extension cords?

Here is my thread with the struggle as I am setting up now - would love your input if you have time! :)

Awesome build and beautiful fish!

Thanks.
Yes you need to decide which sensors or modules u want in ur sump or in your DT and design setup accordingly. a single Very Long USB cable works or as i couldnt fond one Long enough i connected 3 5 meters ones. Make sure to get ones without power amplifiers or it could toast ur apex.
Will checkout ur thread.

here's how the fishroom in basement now looks.
36847460304_ae0225c7e5_o.jpg

Rt to left, a 26 G nano Cube which will soon be scaped and restarted. in the middle 2 frag tanks on top of each other and to the left a tank I'm not sureif ill turn into an sps with angel or butterfly tank or a frag tank below it is the sump linking all tanks with tank at home. . white barrel on the edge is the semi automatic water change system allowing me to change 80 G without stopping the system.

Hi Maroun
I was going through the thread again and found this post about the fish room set up which is impressive.
I am interested in the semi automatic water change system.
Does this work on a daily basis or is this a one time 80G water change at a time you prefer?
If it is daily basis, how many liters are changed per day and what is the total system water capacity?

Hello Janci,
I believe more in larger water changes done in one go once every 2-4 weeks. My water change system is around 80 gallons which I try to do biweekly.

Just noticed that the last update about tank was more than a year back!

so here's how the tank looked in Dec 2017 on last update.

Since then the tank has been growing and coloring up on steady pace. Here's how it looked in Oct 2018
Sorry for the low quality phone pics.

looking at the tank when I was home for the last few months I always had the feeling that the right Island never matched the overall aspect I wanted for the tank. I have also been getting the feeling that some of the corals were not in the optimal positions or weren't growing to the final shape I had in mind. So a couple of decisions were taken.
Starting with the right island, I had redone and re-arranged it a few times over the years but it never turned out as I wanted.

So I wanted something more along the lines of the left island without becoming too repetitive.

So I resorted to have an LFS in Dubai scape the island to the design I wanted. Luckily they have a guy who does great at scaping. I went with Caribsea liferock as I didn't want to deal with pests in LR or with leaching from dead rock. it also had some very nice shapes for easy scaping.

And in the bag she goes. Talk about traveling light

IMAG8246.jpg

IT made it to Beirut in one piece, We had secured it with rods and zip ties but didn't add the epoxy as it would break in transport. So I secured it with epoxy, gave it couple of days to dry and then soaked for 3-4 days in RODI water. i didn't care much about the bacteria coating and prefered to get any impurities to leach out (especially that I used 7-8 tubes of epoxy) I had no algea bloom at all and also skimmer only went crazy for 1-2 day and it wasn't that bad, these rocks are reported to get the skimmer overflowing for days.

here it is in the tank and I started adding a few frags to it.
