I recently bought a Mitras Flex Mount for my Mitras. It did not come with any instructions. I was wondering if anyone had a set of instructions or pictures on how it should be assembled.
Thanks for the help

I don't think they wrote down instructions, but here's a thread last summer with a few tips.

Thanks for the reply. I had looked at that post. I am having issue with how the 2 pieces go together and the bolts with the clips on them. I assume the post had pictures at the start of the post but they do not seem to appear now.

Hey there Hollistic.......same issue here. Have 2 GHL Mitras and grabbed a pair of flex mounts and ready to install on my Reefer 350.

Can you send any helpful tips or pics in a PM my way? That or over the forum is fine with me as well.

Thanks much in advance........Craig.

I couldn’t find any instructions either. I basically used a diamond blade to cut the post to desired length, drilled holes through it to secure on the wall. Looks great, but I have no idea how it was meant to be assembled.

My memory is that the clip make little sense. It had teeth and sits inside the channel, as I recall you could insert it one of two ways, it basically prevents movement one direction. So if you put it in one way, it will go up easily, but not down. Or it can go down easily, but not up.

So I put it to prevent it from sliding down. Two holes in the sump, mounted such that with 8-12" height above tank it will float above the ground. The top + light screws in, there is a piece to hide the cable.

If you have a reefer 170/250, the glass overhangs the back slightly, so you need the washers as I had. If you have a reefer 425 (thicker glass), then it's flush with those stands and you don't need the washers. I had to buy a bunch of washers to prevent it from hitting the glass.

At 12", you get about 385 PAR at the surface. Depending how much power + spread you need. Mine is currently 8" above, so it's unlikely it will touch the floor.

On the vertical piece, the top has the two holes for the crossbar. I remember putting the clip in backwards and having it to fish it back out because I had it backwards.

Here's just a copy-n-paste of my link above:

Just installed this today, some tips that might help the next person since I had to run to the hardware store multiple times.
  • All hardware is metric
  • You need to drill two holes (guessing 8mm), you need a 6mm allen wrench, you may need washers + spacers
  • On a Red Sea Reefer, the front and glass glass pane overhang the stand, so you need washers or spacers to push the mount away from the stand. Depending on your glass, this could be 1/2" or 5/8"
  • It's pretty self-explanatory from the picture. One end of the tall piece is threaded (that's the top). The little clips go inside the tall piece. If the clip goes one direction it moves upward easier than downward and vice-versa (it seems).
On a Reefer 170, it was impossible to mount the light directly in the middle since the emergency drain is in the way. I decided I could live with 1/4-1/2" offset rather than redo plumbing. It was a real tight fit between the two drains as you can see. They include a nice trim piece to hide the wiring.

Thanks again for taking the time to break that down some with the details. Gonna get to work on that soon. Much appreciated!!

I'm exploring various lighting options for a IM Fusion Lagoon 50 (30" x 24" x 16"). How thick is the mount? What do you think would be the absolute minimum space needed to install the mount? Their description recommends 4" of clearance. I would be looking to install the mount on the side of the stand so the light would be parallel to the length (30"). Also just to verify, the light can be centered at 15" with this mount?

Thank you

Hi Chris,

The flex mount piece that goes behind the tank is 1.75"L x 0.75"W x 60" H

As long as you have a sold stand wall to mount the flex mount to, you can position it anywhere.

Thank you Vinny, that should work then. I'm only going to have 1.25" to 1.5" inches between the tank and the wall.

And just to verify, the mount will be able to center the light over the 30" dimension?

I know this is a VERY old thread but I found it because I was also looking for some instructions/diagrams for the "Mitras Flex Mount System 2 - Parallel Mount instruction"

Fortunately, GHL has now (back in 2019) released some "general" instructions on this sytem. Here's a link to download them from the International GHL site:

I'm off to see how well they work on my new installation here :)
