I spotted this thing a day or so ago in my tank. During the day the elegance is extended which blocks the view into this cave, so I'm unsure how long it's been there.

The facts!

It's about 3/4 of an inch tall. The base is white, and fades to black towards the outter edge
It appears to be extending this shell thing from inside a rock
From the side I can see this thing is some type of shell, 2 halves, open about 1mm.
The view from the side is extremely hard, so don't ask for a pic.
The shell halves are almost perfectly flat

I have a hitchhiker mussell, which looks very different than this.

Pictures are not the best. But the description sounds like a rock boring clam.

So when I say 2 shells, I just mean its got 2 halves, that close together similar to a clam, or mussell, but it def isn't either of those.
