Hello all:

I have a IM 112 lagoon-type aquarium so it's basically 35 inches square. I have a gyre which is very strong that I have on the surface on one side and am looking to add contrasting flow from the other side. Do you all think a MP10 will be enough? Or do I need a MP40?

Thanks much! Steve

I have a Waterbox 110 with an 80 gallon display which is basically 4ftx3ftx2ft. I have 2 x MP10s with great flow though out. Just make sure glass thickness isn’t a limiting value.

I would go MP40 have two in my 115 cube and like them . Like the stated if glass thick you may want to go that route anyway

I doubt it will be enough unless running near max, which then is annoyingly loud and also reduces lifespan.

This is a 48” 75g. Top left is MP10. Top right is MP40

The 40 is typically on the 5th or 6th led, roughly 50% power and in some form of pulse or wave mode. When I put in food it makes it to the opposite side of the tank.

The 10 is usually on constant output, and with this configuration most of its power is lost after roughly 12-18”.

The flow of the 10 is much much narrower compared to the 40. I also notice the 40 creates a massive gyre effect. I can put food mid way and watch it go down to the sand, then get pulled 2’ feet or more to the right, and the curve upwards into the 40, and get shot back out again. It doesn’t matter what I set the 10 to, it doesn’t do that.

I have another mp40, and used to have it on the left in lieu of the 10, and noticed the same strong gyre effect as the other 40. The 40 is more than just higher output power, it’s a larger wider pump with large blades and it has a wider flow pattern

Totally agree w/ you .
I originally had a 10 and 40 and decided the 10 wasn’t enough for the flow I wanted . Better for pump life to have it turned down as opposed to maxed out

Thanks guys - I have decided to go MP40. Even if the MP10 had the power is says it's up to .375 glass thickness and mine is .5 inches so that decides it as well as having more "overhead" and a broader flow capability. Cheers, Steve.
