Hey everyone I think its time to start my build thread.
A little about me: I am a former full time photographer that partially closed my studio in 2020 due to that thing that happened. I went back to work in IT full time and now I am an IT Admin at a local university. I started with freshwater tanks back when I was a kid and then around 1987 or so I lived in South Florida. I used to go diving and catch all of my fish with a slurp gun and a bucket floating on the surface in an innertube+Flag. My tank at the time was a 125 gallon with undergravel filters (remember those?) and a pair of incandescent lights above. I had lion fish, an octopus for a while, puffer and a ton of Damsels and Sgt Majors, which I considered garbage fish because they were so plentiful. If one died I would just grab a couple more next time I went diving.
I then went into the navy and my parents sold all my stuff while I was gone when they moved. Move ahead 3 years ago and I start with freshwater tanks. Fully planted aquascapes and lots of various fish, but I missed the saltwater fish.
As a hobby I write reviews for Amazon and they send me things from time to time. They sent me an odd sized 60 gallon low iron glass tank. I asked the wife what she wanted to do with it and she said could we have a saltwater tank? Well, that did it, and here I am. As a photographer I like to tell stories with photos more than words so expect this thread to be full of pics.
The hobby is so so so different than in the 80s it took me about 2 months of just watching every BRS video I could find and a ton more on YouTube. I live in Rochester NY and one of the biggest stores we had closed shop before Halloween and while there are others around they are farther away. So, I will probably come here to ask for advice and assistance from time to time. Not sure if I should ask on this post or make new ones. I guess I will figure it out as I go. For now I will start adding pics of the build sofar and we will go from there.
