After taking a break from large tanks and only having a small Red Sea 170 for the last year an a half I’ve decided to setup a large tank.

It’s a Custom Acrylic corner setup from Tsunami
- 190-Gallon 48"Lx48"Wx24"H Quarter Cylinder Corner Acrylic Aquarium
- Euro Brace
- Trapezoid Plumbed Overflow
- Custom Maple wood 15” canopy and 30” stand in red mahogany stain.
-The front curve being just about 70”.

It’s paired with a Ice Cap 36xl sump, I had originally ordered a tsunami 48x16(for sale or trade) sump as I had intended to put it in the basement but plans changed and I needed a smaller sump with 7” filter sock holes to fit under the tank, thus the ice cap made the cut.

It fit under the stand perfectly with plenty of room for other equipment.
I have 2 of the Klir 7” roller filters and they both slipped in as if they were made for it. I’ve been using the 4” version on the 170 for over a year now and it’s just so much more convenient than socks ever could be.

Of course an Apex will be used to control everything as I have it setup for AWC and top off using a water change station in the garage.

I’ve got most everything Neptune sells and just ordered the new MxM to replace or maybe pair with the Wxm I’m using for the MP’s and Radion G3’s I have.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to use the lights that I have already, Radion G3 XR15’s and XR30’s I have 3 of each, I also have T5 hybrid fixtures as well as DIY T5 retro kits. Most likely run a 4 bulb T5 setup with what ever combo of the radions that fills the tank.
The main return will be a Vectra L2 on a manifold to a chiller, Aqua UV, and media reactor.

I just purchased the new Gyre XF330 cloud kit to use as the primary flow in the tank and have 2 MP40’s that’ll be used for dead spots.

Skimmer is a Reef Octopus 202-S, I’ll be stocking the sump with a couple gallons of marine pure ceramic balls as I’ve been using these in my tanks and currently have a gallon in the 170 that’ll seed the new tank nicely. The ATO compartment of the sump looks to be ideal for the fuge and chaeto, I may have to add an extra drain hole or 2. I have a kessil H350 in the garage that I was using for a lemon tree over the winter but the Neptune grow light under the 170 has been performing amazingly to the point that I’ve had to reduce the photo period to only 4 hours a day and that’s with super heavy feeding and nutrient dosing.
I currently use Tropic Marin Pro salt and All for Reef on the 170 and see no reason to change. I also Dos reef energy nightly.

For the aqua scape I’ve got a variety of homemade arches and caves using the Marco cement and epoxy, I’ve also got a bucket of old school Tonga rock that I’ll cement together.

For mocking up the aqua scape I cut down a piece of plywood to a 45x45” square then just cut it diagonally. I figured it’d end up slightly smaller giving me a buffer zone off the glass.

My goal was to have plenty of hiding spots for fish and to not have any rock more than 12-16” off the sand except the branch structure. Using a tape measure got annoying so I marked the 16” spot on a 24” carpenters level and stood it on end to have a reference point.

Old skull was added in at the end to use up some open space, it’d look cool covered in a encrusting coral of some kind.

Tank is officially wet, I apologize as I got focused in and didn’t take many pictures.

I snapped one as I moved it into place and dry fitted the sump. The builders built the tank with 2x 1” drain lines and a single 3/4” return. I decided to add a third 1” drain to have a fully functional bean animal system without having to run the return line outside the tank.

As for lights my current plan is the tried and true Radions with T5’s.
I’m going to use my old Gen 3 Pros, I currently have 3x XR30 and 3x xr15 units. One of the 30’s is currently over my e170.

I may have enough lighting to not include that one. 2 xr15 units in the front the 2x 48” T5 bulbs then the 2 xr30 units and 1 15 between them and then 2x 24” T5’s in the back.
Ignore the wiring in the sump as that was temporary just to get the pumps running.

The aluminum T-Slot bars that I ordered off Amazon were delivered to the wrong place and now I have to wait for them to be resent. So I mocked everything up mounted and wired the DIY t5 bulbs. It’s amazing how easy it is now that I’ve done it 3 or 4 times.

Tank has been cycling for 2 weeks, the rock and 80 lbs of sand was dry, then I added 2 fist sized rocks from the e170, plus 10ish marinepure balls from the sump that have been in the tank for a year. I also added a bag of ocean direct live sand sand and a bag of the AF bio sand. Than Dr. Tim’s bacteria. I’m dosing ammonia weekly and also using the AF mud.

The corner is looking kinda crowded, I’ll give it 3-4 months before I try and combine the tanks then it’ll look much cleaner without having the e170 next to it.

Not much to update.
Waiting on the aluminum extrusion rails to mount the radions, I’m going to pick up a pair of XR30 Gen 6’s from Rachid in NY.

I added a trio of Banghi’s that I picked up locally, I wanted some sort of livestock in the tank but didn’t want a stray damsel or another pair of clowns. Diatoms have made an appearance, hopefully the uglies don’t last long as I’ve got about a gallons worth of established marine pure spheres in the sump now.

Side note for the E-170, my 2 year old Jawbreaker has decided to take a walk and has started dropping babies for the first time!

And he said let there be light!

I finally got some time this past weekend to finish the lights.
I was about half way through before it hit me that I should take some pictures.

I added 3x XR15’s and 2x xr30’s to the canopy. I used 4 pieces of aluminum extrusion through bolted to the canopy. Then I picked up some M5 bolts that fit the radions and were small enough to slide across the aluminum rail but big enough to not be able to turn and unscrew themselves. Then I spent an absurd amount of time on wire management. I purchased some 3D printed power brick brackets that fit nicely along the back side of the canopy, I also swapped the Eb4 unit for a Eb8(I’m not sure why I used the 4 to begin with).

Time for an update, the tank has been on cruise control since I made the transfer from the Reefer 170. I completely forgot to document it as it was sorta a spur of the moment decision when I was doing weekly tests and the water paeans were within 10% of each other. That was probably the first week of September.

But for todays update it’s out with the old and in with the new.
When I setup up the big tank I used my old reef octopus 202-s with the ole reliable AC pump. Needless to say my better half who works from home hasn’t been to pleased with the noise so I ordered a Regal 200SSS 8” skimmer with the C2T-90 CO2 scrubber and cup lid.

I’ll update once the puzzle is assembled!

I always liked corner tanks. Good use of space. Looking good!
Thanks man, they have always been one of my favorite tank types. I’ll update with a FTS once I get everything cleaned up and the glass cleaned.

The skimmer and CO2 scrubber are assembled… now I have to do some wire management(these apex probe cables make a heck of a rats nest) that I’ve put off and pull the old one. I’ve also added a Phillips Hue LED strip light around the edge of the cabinet under the tank.

Alexa turn on fish tank is a game changer for doing any work under the tank!

It’s been a few months since my last update so let’s get the show on the road.
First I sold the e170 in October and picked up a IM 50 lagoon Int on sale in November.
I unboxed it and assembled the stand the week before thanksgiving and it sat in the corner until the week before Christmas before I was able to get the time to plumb it into the corner system.
I made a manifold that feeds both tanks, a UV, BRS dual media reactor, and another spot of a chiller.

The frag tank is being lit with the 24” Aquatic Life T5 hybrid fixture and a XR30 G3 pro.
It currently has a MP10 as the primary wave maker while I troubleshoot a pair of icecap gyres and hydros that I got used.

I commissioned a custom 3 tiered frag rack system for it.
It currently has a handful of test frags and a starry blenny with CuC.
I’ll be adding a small scopas tang and wrasse soon.
I may had some saltwater mollies and that’ll be the extend of the fish for the frag tank. I may add some peppermint shrimp.

For Christmas I got a pair of new Maxspect Gyre 350 cloud pumps, I run those at 65% with a pair of MP40’s on reef rest at 75% and the coral love it.
I also got my netted lid from clearview lids, it was custom made to my specs and the process from beginning to end was amazingly simple.
I picked up a roll of clear box wrap from hobby lobby and traces the top of my tank onto it and sent it to them. After some going back and forth about features they had it out to me about 3 weeks later.

Oh and I finally got around to doing that cable management!

Drag racks arrived 2 weeks ago, I’ve slowly been transitioning corals from the magnetic frag racks in the display o er to the frag tank.
Everything has been going smoothly, I’ve also managed to make up a large number of extra frags from the overgrowth onto the racks.
I also picked up a juvenile 1 spot foxface to keep the bubble algae under control in the frag tank. He’s currently in the acclimation box with a giant mirror on the opposite side as the baby scopas tang was super aggressive the moment he went into the tank.

Excuse the glass mess it needs to be cleaned again.
The skull has achieved a near 100% coraline coverage! Now if the coral would grow as fast I’d be super happy!
