My inverts spawn in my tank! Do you get these too? How often?

I was doing my typical 100th round of watching the aquarium ... mesmerized and did not realize the lights had turned off!

Then I realized my urchin was Spawning! Similar to Rockflowers ..

Spawning is relatively common - the fertilized eggs/pelagic larvae hatchlings surviving to grow into new tank inhabitants is incredibly uncommon (it happens every once in a while that you get a survivor or two, but again, it's extremely rare; in the vast majority of cases, unless you pull the eggs/larvae out to raise in a safe tank, it's expected that there will be no surviving larvae from a spawning event).

That said, Rockflower nems, torch corals, and a few others have been known to have survivors on occasion - things like urchins and snails aren't so lucky.

Benthic larvae (from laid/brooded eggs rather than spawned eggs) tend to have decent survival rates though (this is the kind of larvae most snails that reproduce in our tanks successfully have).

I have several rockflower babies .. they are 2 inch plus now!

No urchin baby yet

My clowns spawn too, and grow to 2 mm side babies but no babies survived

No Spawning of others.

I have 12 RFA with over 3" diameter (3-4 of them are probably 6") and over 6 babies that are 2" about and 6-8 of under 1 inch but settled and will grow ... I will post a video of parents and babies in a day or two ... lights are off now

Tip - keep only best colored ones .. the babies will be mix of the parents ...

I am hoping torches spawn and some mixed breed babies survive ...
