hello im new to the tank life, like brand new. I have a 20-gallon long tank freshly cycled and I'm very interested in breeding clownfish or even some tangs. I currently have 3 clownfish one that is a small oceriolis that has been with me from the start of the tank (which was rough but he made it through like a champ ) then I bought a big maroon clownfish that the pet store had isolated in there inverts tank .also bought a nice big anemone hoping both clowns would host the same one and pair up possibly ... definitely not the case the oceriolis wanted nothing to do with the inemony but the maroon loved it, so it worked but still no pair .i quickly relapsed again from my new fish addiction and went looking for a pair to host this enemony , so I went to my local fish store and found my third fish , its another maroon clown fish (thinking maybe same species of clown may be a little easier to get to pair ) smaller than the first I bought yet still a medium size fish hoping for maturity, and the guy at the pet store said he was a male so I took his word ......... but now what ???
how do I know if I even have two compatible fish ??
how can I make them pair faster ???
should I take out my oceriolis ??
at what maturity do they spawn ?
how many eggs will they lay per spawn ??

so many questions and trial and error is very expensive
please help
sincerely .. a dedicated newreefer

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!! Clownfish are weird (but awesome) and pairings can take time. I would suggest that you set up another tank or re-home your ocellaris, and then cross your fingers and hope that the two Maroons will pair without a lot of aggression.

As in my case, I placed 10 of them in the tank and 4 paired off, found their sweet spot in the tank and lay eggs every 3 weeks or so

Welcome to R2R. I second doing a little research here on the forum or on the web in general. I have discovered not all news host clowns, some only certain types of clowns. If you want to breed them than maybe look at how you need to set up your tank(s) for success....Good luck.
