Welcome to R2R. I originally started with all HOB equipment. I was pretty successful with it. I've since upgraded.

Do you have any pics of your tanks?
I'll get one of the 29 once the lights come on but here's the 13.5 and the 48 just waiting for now

My first tank was a 38 gallon bow front.
The bow fronts just look awesome to me, I'm thinking I'll do a HOB overflow so that I can have a sump below.....thoughts? But again, gotta get the 13.5 going, sand rocks and water in, just waiting for ATO, intank media basket, and a Kessel all of which should arrive today or tomorrow depending on UPS

My 38 bowfront was all HOB equipment without sump. My only concern with HOB overflow would be some problem with loss of siphon. Then you have water coming in from sump but nothing into the sump - tank overflow. I think that there are ways of dealing with this but just something to think about. But I do love having the sump in my current tank.

Just throwing ideas around right now, no set plans for the 48 yet. Definitely appreciate your thoughts on the overflow though
