Tested my fresh salt water and there’s NO at 1 mg/L. Is that acceptable? Or should the freshly prepared water be at zero?

I just added potassium nitrate to my ATO RO water to get my numbers up so I guess it depends on your goals

the title says Nitrate in RO water, but you tested new salt water. It' most likely the salt mix contains some NO3 or NO2 that would register on the test. New salt routinely measures as having ammonia, and it's not a concern generally.

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
