Update:
We had to restart the poll because it wasn't display users, which wouldn't let us see who voted. Please cast your vote again so we can have your vote counted. Thank you!

At POTO, we value different ideas and methodologies when it comes to reefing as it allows us to compare notes and learn from each other to better ourselves in this hobby. We thought it'd be fun and interesting to see how our different methodologies will fare when it comes to showing results. So we are excited to invite you to tag along with us as we have a grow-off among POTO's 3 resident stick heads.

Who: Kenny, Will, and Chris aka sabellafella
Target Coral: POTO Goofy Homewrecker
Starts: 3/11/2024
Ends: 8/31/2024

How to be a part of this:
After learning about each grow-off system and each contestant's methodology in the videos below, you are invited to vote for the stick head that you think will win. If your stick head wins, you will win a swag bag from POTO! Voting ends April 21st 2024!

Day 1 (3/11)
Note: Although this is posted on 3/13, frags were made on 3/11.

We made frags from one of our working colonies. And I tried to make the frags as similar in size and shape as possible. But as you know they don't always pan out the way we want:

Haha yea I'm one.

Here's some eye candy from my home system to give everyone something to look at.

Definitely the same routine here I do with all my systems. Pretty middle ground on maintenance but more or less not messing around with things. System is straight forward for the last 8 years.

System im growing the frag out in is just about a year old. Definitely what i noticed is acropora tend to fill out alot quicker in a newer setup. Believe its because the individual doesnt have to compete with 20 pounds of good ol alive calcium carbonate compared to my home display.

What else is nice, throught the thread hopefully we can teach some of what we learn and experiences we go through growing these pieces out. All 3 tanks have wildy different set of reefing fundamentals, would be really interesting to see the effects of our individual programs on how the coral thrives, colors, overall health of the skin and polyp extension. We normally just mess around at the shop with stuff like this but why not have it public. There's tons of pro tips I'm sure well share, can definitely relate to it as well along with a timeline to hopefully see results.

Enjoy guys! Chris

Awesome! Love this. Each of your techniques have their own advantages, and Chris has t5 which I think is super to led for growth. I still think it will come down to bacteria! If you guys do a grow out open to the public I want in!

We have some update for you guys from last week.

will-peeled.jpg

4 days after we made the frags, Will's frag unfortunately peeled. We feel the fresh-cut demon has struck and/or the placement of it being in a frag tank might play a role. We will let Will claim our own POTO 14-Day Guarantee and cut another frag so he can still be in the running. We believe the 4 days of difference is negligible.

We cut Will's frag on Thursday 3/14, same day we found the peeled frag. Here's Will's new frag.

And here are the rest of the frags as of today and they're looking good:

Videos should be coming in the next few days. Thank you for your patience!
