Hi, I just purchased a copper and butterfly at my LFS yesterday. I’m not sure if these little white spots were on him while he was at the store I don’t believe I saw them though. However I did notice them after putting him in the tank. Is this ick or some other disease? Is it just tiny sand pieces? Should I remove him before any disease spread to my other fish which all seem fine?

The spots don’t really look like ich spots to me, too irregular.
My guess is lymphocytosis, which is common in new butterflyfish. Often it’s a sign of some stressor, but isn’t harmful in its own (there’s also no treatment, it just goes away on its own).

Looks like lymph. And store lighting is set to hide disease as much as possible.

If you see random spots on body , that could be ich. But the edge of the fins is most likely lymph.

If you can try feeding live food. They love live black or white worms. You can even pop open a small live clam for them to pick at
