No signs of illness all other fish fine , no spots , nitrate was just a little higher than norm and tank established 2 years? Common causes?

Its hard to say without more history and pics. If fish was eating and breathing normal right up to point of death.
Any signs of injury, agression or skin issues, etc

Without some symptoms, we really can't tell you much. Fish can die and show no symptoms in advance, but that is pretty rare. More often, there were subtle symptoms that just got missed leading up to the fish's death.

How long did you have the fish?
