I’m having some issues with my protein skimmer. It’s collecting very thick bubbles, so thick that they overflow out the sides of the skimmer. There’s pretty much no skimmate, just thick bubbles. What can I do the fix this? Thank you.

If you haven’t changed the settings on the skimmer and everything was normal before the bubbles started going crazy find out what’s different in the tank before you start going on the skimmer setting yo-yo.

Open the exit valve.
Raise the skimmer in the sump to lower static water level.
Heed the previous warnings if this isn’t a new skimmer start up.

Thanks everyone. I’m afraid I’m already in the skimmer setting yoyo I added chemiclean about two weeks ago, did water change and running carbon but skimmer hasn’t been the same since turning it back on. No matter where the settings are, it foams up like this. I’m also dosing microbacter7 and skimmer is off for four hours after, per the directions.

I ran mine with the top off for a day after chemiclean.
I've heard microbacter will cause the skimmer to run heavy too.
