BRS has 50% off protein skimmers right now. I’ve been considering getting one for my tank. My current tank is a Red Sea 170. I know that I’m getting a larger tank in the future and when I do, I will plumb both into the same larger capacity sump. My question: I can get the -

DFC-280 Controllable In-Sump Protein Skimmer

1/2 off and it is rated for a 240g heave load and up to 420 light load I think. My sump depth matches the operating water depth for the skimmer. This would fully support this Red Sea and my future 200g tank.

Isn’t going to be a problem using this skimmer in a smaller tank? Or will it be fine and do its job?

that 170 sump is awfully small,
if anything double check that skimmer footprint
I did measure and it does fit. I will have to adjust my ceramics around it. I also have to figure out how I’m going to reincorporate my refugium. Currently I just float my algae over the ceramics with a bubbler under them to keep water moving.
