QT water changes with turbo start and meds?

So we’re thinking of treating our new fish instead of going straight into the new tank. Some people suggested prazipro and copper. If we’re doing heavy water changes each day, does that mean we should do a redose of everything?

Yes. You’ll need to dose additional meds after a water change, though that will be nearly impossible to do with Prazi as there’s no way to measure concentration. It’s also not recommended to treat with multiple meds at the same time unless it’s an emergency situation.

Your best bet is to start with copper. I use Coppersafe and a Hanna checker. Get copper in QT to 2.25-2.5. Have a fresh container for water changes pre-dosed to the same level. Pull out “X” amount of QT water, and replace with “X” amount of pre-dosed water as needed for water changes, which you’ll likely only need to do if ammonia begins to show up.

By the time you’re ready for Prazi, you should be able to go about a week without worrying about elevated ammonia, and you can follow the QT protocol for dosing and water changes.
