when doing a water change meaning you took out "x" gallons you replace that number of gallons with new saltwater that you made up to the same salinity that you run your tank at. you add fresh water, not salt water, hopefully RODI or distilled water ( please not tap water) to your tank daily as a top off to replace evaporation. does that answer the question?

To amplify on the above, salt water for water changes. You use RODI water for top off.
