Hello all
Im hoping to get some help here
I’ve bought red OGO from algae barn
Set up a 50 breeder about half filled to grow my own
I have a prime fuge light 100% running 12 hours
Fluval canister filter
Doing with chaeto grow

OGO is growing as I can harvest and feed my tangs almost daily and still have enough

However here comes the issue, the OGO is losing color..
But seems to continue to grow?

My logic was losing color, getting clear means it’s dying and have no nutrition…
But seems to grow and grow?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to gain some color back on the red OGO? Does it also mean that it’s losing nutrients?

Thanks for your in advance for your insight/input

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your Red Ogo.

Intensity of lighting can indeed affect the coloration of macroalgae. Since you're using the light at 100% for 12 hours, it's possible that the light intensity might be too high for the Red Ogo. While Red Ogo likes more intense lighting it might be best to dial back the total amount of hours you are running it, and maybe run for only 8 hours?

Could you provide more details about your tank setup? How long has it been established, and what are your current water parameters i.e. Nitrite (NO2), Nitrate (NO3), and Phosphate (PO4)? Also, do you know what your micro nutrient levels are like iron, mag & iodine?

There are a lot of variables to consider. Additionally, if you could share some pictures of your Red Ogo along with more information about your tank, our support team is available and happy to help.
