Just curious, is anyone out there using one of the Klir rollermat filters with a Red Sea Reefer? How well do they fit/work?

I just received my Klir Di-4 yesterday. I have a MAX E-170 with the add-on sump so the drain is on the left side of the sump. Based on the requirements, the optical sensor needs at least 1.5" of depth to trigger the roller so I'm working on a 3D printed adapter.

It slides right in over the existing filter sock drawer.

Its designed to use the smaller of the 2 round addapter plates that Klir provides.

There is enough clearance for the optical sensor to face to the left, right, or rear of the sump.

Installed and running! There is still a little leakage, but I can't tell if it's from the slack in the ring or that my printed adapter is not water tight (only printed 10% infill for speed). I'll print another at 100% and slightly smaller ring to see if I can stop the drips.

One observation so far, just like a brand new filter sock, as new material rolls into the filter chamber my skimmer starts to bubble over. This may become a problem over time if I have to tune my skimmer down to account for this new variable.

This is on the printer right now. I've extended the dam's side walls further towards the back to hopefully reduce any water seeping by. This also gave me some additional material to create a trigger level line (the little notch) so you know when your Klir should roll. I also softened all corners that touch water to encourage smoother/quieter flow. If it works as expected, this is the model I will post on thingiverse.

Woo! Thanks for making this. I was lamenting my Klir that I can't use on my tank. I'll print this out immediately and give it a try when you have the model ready.

What material are you using? I’ve been waiting for them to release an adapter, but it’s true that an easily printed geometric part would work. Nylon? You could use a pressure fit of rubber spline in a groove to seal any areas prone to leaking.

For prototyping, I use PLA. It prints fast while maintaining geometric accuracy. For the final print, I'm going to use ABS or PETG. I have not tried nylon yet.

Right now, the slow drips are coming from the ring. I'm tightening up the tolerances in the current print to see if I can get a better seal. I may also add a 1mm thick lip on the bottom of the ring to seal it better. To be honest it might me overkill. The amount a leakage is so small, I doubt any meaningful waste is making it past the filter.

Ok, v3 is printed and leaks less than v2.

I never really looked before, but I would say it may leak less than the stock filter sock. :)

It this point, I'm happy with the result and will post it to thingiverse tonight to tomorrow. For anyone that is interested in what it took to get to this point, here are my "prototypes".

Did the original tray need to be modified by enlarging the whole to for the Klir Filter ?

Also what width size is the adapter ?

So I attempted to make my own adapter and ran into a problem. I cut out a 4” circle in my acrylic plate, but the adapter that comes on the Klir filter is not a complete circle. On the kilr adapter that’s not a complete circle the water leaks through there. What’s the point of that? The other adapters are complete circles but not 4”. One of them is almost 4” but not sure exactly what the diameter of it is. Any ideas how to fix that issue ?

A couple of small changes to reduce the amount of material needed to print this adapter. I hollowed the base and the side walls while leaving enough material along the perimeters to maintain the structure.

The other change is to add a "potbelly" to the front of the adapter. This is on the back of facebook comments CoralVue has made that the optical trigger sensor needed to face the opposite direction of the flow. The potbelly makes room for the sensor on the front side.

It's on the printer now. I'll update the thingiverse page after I get a chance to test it.

I don't think so, but honestly, I do not have access to a dual sock system. If others would like to take detailed measurements and pictures, I can try and put something together.
