Does anyone leave it on 24/7? What are some pros and cons of doing so?

I leave it on 24/7. It helps algae growth and hence excess nutrient up-take.

It really depends on the algae. I know with my cheato I left it on 24/7 and the stuff grew out of the water with millions of pods it seemed.

I like all the questions lately Kigs! It's good for people looking for info. :D

My skimmer dumps in to the 150g refugium and then gravity feeds to my sump so prolly not, will it make a big difference?

From what I understand you need some flow moving through the chaeto to keep it happy and growing the best. I had trouble growing mine until I added a PH.

Oh I also kept mine under a bright Home depot or lowes floodlight. I just purchased one of the little metal clip on fixtures for a few bucks and a lamp. I had it grow out of the refugium!

I think your skimmer is removing all the nutrients before the water gets to the refugium. Mine is the exact reverse order of yours and mine grows like mad.

I use the same setup. Home depot clamp light and a compact fluorescent daylight bulb. Cheap, easy setup and works fine. About $10 and you're done.
