Removing an overflow on a 300

Hey there, still kinda new to the forum so I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right place but here goes. I’ve recently purchased a 2010 model marineland 300 gallon deep dimension. (I’m aware of the issues they had and am reinforcing to assure there are no leaks. My question is about the overflow boxes. I bought new rectangular overflows to replace the half round ones and then changed my mind and want to delete one. I’ll still run dual drains out the single overflow and use the drilled holes on the other end to pipe up my returns. I’m hoping to achieve the full 3’ viewing on one end. Do I need to oversize my single overflow or will the single 5” X 8” be sufficient? I’m thinking my return flow might have to be lessened to match the slower drain rate. Not really sure and don’t want to find out I screwed it up the hard way. Thanks for any tips or advice…

I think it would be entirely dependent on the return flow levels.

Just don't try to push 3000 gph through it it will be fine.

Slower flow through for the sump. Get your water flow with power heads.
