Considering purchase of a new RO/DI setup for my new hobby. Looking at BRS and they seem really expensive. Any alternative recommendations? I am thinking about 150 gal and not sure if 5, 6 or 7 stage is needed for southern california water. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Look up amazon, I got a 4 stage Aquatic Life RODI for about $165, many other brands available too, that are just as good. IMHO, it should be required equipment for all saltwater hobbyists!

Get a water report from your supplier to determine the starting quality and what disinfectants are used.

besides there are two main designs, the ones that use the standard clear canisters all can be interchanged with new parts anyway:
IME brand doesn’t really matter in the RO unit world

Depends on how patient you are an how efficient you want to be. I have 300g worth of system and have a 120g mixing station. 60 fresh 60 salt.

I started with a 4 stage then turned it into

IN (315tds) ->Sediment -> carbon-> carbon -> booster pump (85psi) -> 100gpd ro -> 100gpd ro-> auto flush (8tds) -> di -> di -> di -> out 0tds.

I can make quite a bit of water a day on this setup. Not quite the 200gpd it says but definitely over 100

Looking back to your reefing roots: Did you start with Instant Ocean salt?
