I’ve been noticing some sand grains in the silicone of my reef tank. The tank is 1000 litres and built only 9 months ago.

Is this of concerns? I have not noticed any worms and don’t think I’ve been scraping the sand too close to the silicone. Thanks for any input.

Curious, did you ever got an answer? Is this something to be concerned about longer term that can lead to leaky seams?

Old post I know but the sand looks like it's in the flash not the seam so it's nothing to worry about. The flash is just excess that is not part of the bond. Only the silicone actually between the glass panels matter. Some tanks have more flash than others. Armored seams have none visible.

I would talk with whoever built the aquarium. I believe the silicone adhesive should have adhered to the glass all the way to the edge of the silicone bead. Could be a sloppy silicone bead application.
