Hello members.
Here is a super slim overflow. It has an emergency drain incorporated plus the main drain. Flow rate 0 - 3200 gph possible per single overflow unit

. A control gate valve is installed on the main drain to match the rate of the return pump. Emergency drain can act as a surface skimming drain also. No durso, no mufflers, no bean animal or herbie piping. Runs very silent, no gurgle or air cavitation.

any future concerns with the overflow in terms of protection against fish or inverts getting stuck? seems your version doesn't take account for a weir

In the photo the grates are not inplace yet. The main drains are the drains below the horizontal planes. Grates restrict any fish entry. Plus the surface/ emergency drain has a grate too. I have used this design for over 8 years with no fish issues. the twin main drains flow into a common box volume, so the drain force has a low suction force on an object above the drain. Plus the horizontal plane acts as a deterrent, I have noticed when a fish touchs it they swim away typically.
