My dose of AFR is keeping my calcium pretty steady, but my alk is dropping so I was looking into dosing soda ash. The directions say to dose part 2 of the Balling method if all is falling. The description says it is sodium bicarbonate/sodium carbonate, would I be right in assuming I could just use soda ash?

I'd just dose more AFR. The calcium will hardly budge by boosting alk with it.

But of you want to, any type of alk supplement is fine for a one time correction. if you already have the Balling alk part, that's fine, but I would not go looking for it. Baking soda is equally suitable.

Ok, will up the AFR. I bought some baking soda to bake, but just wanted to make sure it was safe. If I still had issues with the alk could I dose it regularly to keep up?
