I think my daughter has talked me into collecting and raising the fry from this round. Should be hatching tonight or tomorrow.

Today is either day 8 or 9 and they look about ready to come out. We waited to see if they would last night but no luck. I picked up some acrylic so I can trap the earls wrasse on the other side of the tank to give the fry better odds of making it out alive. He definitely knows they’re close to hatching, he’s been spending more and more time around their area of the tank. We are very excited for them to hatch. My daughter took photos to school of each day as the eggs progressed to show her class on Friday.

They’re looking like they’re about ready to hatch. I hope so because I’m tired of the nightly routine of shutting down the tank at lights out and putting the divider in and waiting. Lol

Best advice from experience. Even better than a larval snagger that was suggested. Choose either 2 identical tiles, clay pots, clam shells or small rocks. Place one of them near the area where they are spawning in the display. Give it time. They will not immediately abandon their current nest spot for the new one. When they do, it will make your life a lot easier and you will hatch almost 100% of whole clutch. Once they lay the eggs on the provided object you don’t have to wait till they hatch at night, turn off your pumps, give away your wrasses etc, etc. Let the parents begin to care and on day 7 when eyes can be seen, remove the object by placing in container with aquarium water(do not expose to air), and place in a larval tank ( can be 10 gal) with sides blacked out and the sponge you are getting. Place an airstone to blow gently across the eggs. The next day at night, you should have a 10 gal full of larvae ready for their first meal of enriched rotifers. When you remove the object from display, replace it with an identical one so they lay their next batch on it. Good luck with those beautiful black snowflake babies!

Looks like the male did a bit better fertilizing the eggs this round. Should be hatching on Sunday or Monday.

From my experience, the eggs almost always hatch after light out. As mentioned above, clowns really like the texture or something of clay pots/tiles, I would second that advice

Yea, I’ve raised them before about 10 years ago. I waited until after lights out but they decided to wait a little longer. There’s also tile in the tank, it’s up to them where they lay though.
