Hello All,
I thought I would share some growth shots under the AI SOL Blue lights. They are about 10" above a 220g tank (30" deep). Highest coral in the tank is the first Green Acro at about 13" below the water surface, so 23" from the lights.
A couple of observations:
1. The color in the newer corals has faded some. I am not sure if it is a result of the low nutrient system I run, the fact that the corals came from a T5 tank, or just a simple adjustment to being in a new tank and new lighting. Regardless, I am noticing some of the color coming back over time. This will be one of the items that I track via these pictures.
2. The lights are not turned up as much as they will ultimately get to. Currently I am at 60/60/40 Rb/B/W and will begin to move this up over the coming months. Max PAR atm for the highest coral (the Green Acro) is about 380-400. I expect to get this to around 500 over time.
3. Parameters are rock solid and have been. Alk=143ppm, Ca-460, Mag -1350, I am using ESV salt and do 10% water change 2x's a month. I currently dose small amounts of KZ Amino Acids, Phol's Xtra, and Sponge Power. Nitrates are 0 and Phos is .04 via Hanna.
4. Pics are taken at the same shutter and Aperture setting each time, I will try to make the pics as consistent as possible for color observations.
5. Note the encrusting on all of them. I know this has a lot to do with flow and general health, but I have noticed for whatever reason in my tank once they get a solid base down, they really start growing hard.
Here are the pics taken on 3/13/11 - 4/28/11 - 5/29/11, so about 10 weeks.
Please feel free to ask questions if there is some info I missed or just in general. I will look to update and add to the pics each month so we can see the impact of the lights over time.
Green Acro
Ultimate Stag.
Note the yellow tips at the start, I am starting to get this back.
Firefly Acro
The green is proving difficult to get back. But I saw the same thing with the green acro up top and it is getting back its color, so we will stand by and see.
Tri Color.
Clearly this is the piece that has faded the most, however the new growth tips are getting some decent color. We will see.
ORA Green Gecko
I will start to track this one as well. (so for reference.)
Note the Growth on this Favia: 4-28-11 and 5-29-11
