We are excited to donate the first corals from the Gulf Coast to the Mote International Gene Bank. Woohoo! A selection of corals from the Tampa Bay Saltwater farm is now securely preserved for future generations.

Coral reefs are experiencing unprecedented die-offs worldwide, and it’s critical to restore them with resilient and genetically diverse corals that have the best chances to survive and reproduce. However, scientists can only do that if our native corals don’t disappear first. To protect the living treasure of coral genetic diversity, Mote has created a unique, large-scale, land-based, living coral gene bank where dozens of coral genotypes (genetic varieties) of at least 30 species can be stored in triplicate.

Thursday, the TBS warehouse was damaged from Hurricane Helene’s storm surge. We are fine and the emergency backup systems are working as planned. However, much of our equipment and supplies did not fare well.

TBS will be closed while relocating due to the Hurricane.
We are moving to a NEW location beginning next week and building a larger holding system, WooHOO!
Hold steady as we work as quickly as possible to re-assemble the live rock Icehouse and begin shipping NEW orders in November. *Existing orders currently shipping as scheduled.

Wave apps varied between 8' to 20' waves over the farm. Most likely some rocks moved, and others buried. Will be interesting to see.

Often in my business I feel that some of the toughest decisions are the easiest to sit on, but somehow you always get shown the right way. Thankful to have the weekend to move TBS to higher ground; now we are in the process of evacuating our homes. Greatly appreciate our customers' flexibility as we navigate through yet another storm.

Hurricane Helene flooded the warehouse with 3' of saltwater. We cleaned up and moved out. A day after starting the new warehouse build, Milton hit the Tampa area with widespread flooding and power outages. Thankfully the new warehouse was not flooded, however all members of the TBS team lived in evacuation zones, experienced damages and loss due to both hurricanes. We are working tirelessly to rebuild, restock and get back on track as soon as possible.
