Some of these tangs live in swift jets. Might explain their energy levels.
I forget the word for those currents. They can send people miles from their location if taken by them.
That’s prime territory for Achilles Tangs! Which is why we suck at keeping them lol

I say, spend your money. You'll understand what yhese guys are talking about once the tangs go homicidal. Or, not and try again ;)
see i asked if anyone had experience putting a powder blue in a 4 foot tank every 1 said it will kill all your fish i am still waiting for it to show a tiny bit aggression

I believe it’s a Surge Zone but could be wrong, I know Acanthurus absolutely love those areas which is why with any Acanthurus species that you want to try get as much flow as possible due to high o2 levels.

Thank you, that's it!!!

I did. At the 6" mark in open space with a 60" tank. My pbt went homicidal. Bye bye pbt!

Emperor kept growing and needed a new home. The odd thing is, the emperor has very thick scales and extremely tough fins. The pbt could not put a scratch on him.

Luck if the draw is, and it's pretty rare. Getting a peaceful powder tang in a smaller system.

Also just quickly, here’s one of my ‘large fish’… Does this girl look stressed?
IMG_5806.jpeg

To me, I’d say she’s fat and showing no signs of being stressed. And I have a thread on my CBB… She never once looked skinny in the 4 years I have had her :)

I cant tell you what to do as I said earlier but we can advise you, it’s your responsibility to agree or disagree.

I'm playing possum since I have a sailfin, blue, purple, naso, yellow and a fox face in a 3' cube. To our Tang Police: I've asked all the occupants everyday if they're comfortable and I have heard zero complaints! :)
did you introduce the zebrasomas all together and if not how did they react?

So yes tangs are a hot topic for sure… Ive got a six foot with a purple, yellow, blue hippo, and a yellow eye kole. Purple is close to being full grown, yellow is about 4 inches, blue and bristletooth are about 2-3 inches. And no Ive never seen clownfish outside of maroons get 8 inches in the tank.. my adult female is 3 maybe 4 inches. I had my purple in my 70 gallon (about 4 and a half feet) for a month before I could put fish in my six foot and he was very unhappy in there. World of difference. The only small tang I have is my bristletooth, the other three Im expecting to reach full size and calculated for that to be safe. We all know they dont reach ocean size in tanks, but I still plan my stock around that. I also listen to others on here as far as advice for what to add and what not to add. Its your tank and your fish! I just suggest researching these fish. Purple, gem and black are all in the same family and are aggressive and if they dont have a lot of room that could be an issue. I had issues with my purple and yellow fighting in my 6 foot for a week. They still squabble some but its died down. Having an established purple I would not add the other two in that short of tank in my opinion from what I saw with adding my yellow. But if you do want to still do it, look into tang decoys and have an acclimation box ready to catch and put your tangs in to let the others settle if they become aggressive. Thats just my two cents from my experiences .

The only one that pops in my mind currently is the “east Australian current” cause Nemo was on like 2 days ago and I saw that part :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: I know the Achilles love super high flow! My blue eyeKole does also… it scared me I thought it had velvet since it sat in from the mp40’s on full blast just swimming away lol…

the only reason i was adding the gem was to spread aggression between them so it's not just 1 taking the aggression

They will do that for the exercise. Funny little beasts.

So far, my clown hasn't done that yet. But at 4" im not expecting much. At 6.. hopefully he'll be in a new tank by then.

No zoomies unless it's feeding time. Then the clown does laps in excitement.

Franks going to love piglet...

Yeah Im not sure I would do that, I would use decoys a few days before adding the black tang and just do that! To me adding another fish just to spread aggression isnt a reason to add one and might cause issues in the long run. But thats my opinion, again your tank and your fish, I can only give you advice to what I would do! Keep us updated!

Thing is mirror works on the powder blue not the purple use to work on the purple but since the introduction of my powder blue he stopped caring don't know if that means he wont care about another tang or not

I've introduced all these guys within 6-8mos of each other when they were "babies", around 2-2.5" in size. They all seem to live in harmony and all of them are fat, dumb, and happy! They eat pellet food and a piece of nori a day. I feed them 2 frozen mysis cubes per week (if I remember). That's pretty much it. No aggression -- guess I'm lucky!
