Does a newly cycled tank mature without lights or ammonia to feed it ? I hear nitirifiyng bacteria go dormant without source of ammonia how true is this

The bacteria do need a food source. You do not need any lights but will need a source of ammonia to help colonize your rock, sand, and water column with bacteria. You can also add the bacteria in a bottle products to speed up the process.
