Any updates @OrionN ?
Well, I got some update on my mangroves. Apparently, my manual pollination trial was a success this spring. Cleaning up my mangroves this holiday Sunday, I find three seed pods on my Black mangrove. My Red mangrove also start to grow, sending additional leaves.

Now once the pods matures I will try to germinate and grow the pod to complete the cycle of fully captive grown Black Mangrove. New plant complete from seed grown Black mangrove.

Anyone know where to get a couple red mangroves that are already acclimated to saltwater?
I've found the most success buying from LFS or other hobbiests who already have them rooted in SW. I've had success growing them from pods that haven't sprouted yet too. The hit rate for these ones surviving seemed to be pretty high when I was growing them to sell a few years ago.

I set up a 180 reef w/lagoon area for mangroves as well as a couple of macro-algae display tied in in my classroom a few months ago.

Here’s the build thread

Anyway, I started with 6 red mangrove propagules in the shallow lagoon part. Took them a little while, but they have all leafed out at this point. There is an AI Hydra 26 right over them, but they also get 3-4hrs/day of direct sunlight (on sunny days). They seem to be doing well, and moving faster than the last couple I tried.

The mangroves are in the shallow end on the right:

If you see, I began adding barnacles to the section. I’ve always kept nano creatures in this area, but this began my obsession with the lovable little barnacle blennies. There are at least 5 in this first shot, and a yasha goby. I had 3-4 yasha gobies in my display, but small fish LOVED to travel down into the sump:

Looks like they might have put on a bit too much makeup before their photo shoot.

Mangrove diseases?
Some of the leaves on my mangrove trees look like they are diseased. Yet the tree appears to be fine and growing relatively well. Just all theblower leaves fall off.
Any idea what this is and how to fix it?

This looks like salt damage to me. How often do you clean the leaves with freshwater?

Resurrecting this thread, since I love mangroves. Just planted 7 black mangrove seedlings, slowly bringing them from hyposalinity to full strength. I did plant these in pots full of sand with aquarium plant root tabs to hopefully help them take off faster, unlike my red mangroves which were bareroot until they grew roots down through the rock, rubble, and sand in the refugium on the other system.

The red mangroves in the 75 gallon refugium for my 240 gallon FOWLR are growing extremely well. Most are over 2' now and have 10+ leaves. Some have roots over 2' long. They're also getting a nice red coloring under the 30W Nicrew led light with full intensity whites and blues on.

And my next adventure should be soon. I reordered 7 oriental mangroves and a seagrape tree (Coccoloba uvifera) today to try and grow in one of my systems. We'll see how it goes!

Red mangroves don’t excrete salt through their leaves, their exclude it from entering their roots. Why do you believe it’s salt damage?

This pic I quote here looks like spider mite damage. If there is a very fine coat of webbing on the leaf surface, that's what it is. Spider mites can be stopped by carefully wiping from leaf with isopropyl alcohol and by misting foliage with clean water. They can't reproduce with higher humidity levels.

They still can have salt creep build up on their leaves, which can burn the leaf. I've seen this with mine when I've ignored them for a while.

Hence my suggestion to clean the leaves off regularly.
