I was able to get most of the cabinet framed out today. I will be lining the two ends with plywood. These will be open to act as a book shelf with a light on top and thinking of doing the back with some stone. The center will have either one or two doors. Have not thought that out yet, but its taking shape. Good thing this is getting painted. I can be a little sloppy with the screw holes since they will be filled.

did you have the cherry milled down to the 2x4's etc?

or are those normal pine or something like that bought from a store? Sorry if dumb question I am tree blind. I just want to get the scope of the cherry correct in my head.

Very cool! As others said, nothing wrong with using wood. Especially if you replant it. Luckily the world has started to see this and countries are greening up (literally, as in more trees) than there have been in decades. Obviously, there are areas of high impact (mainly tropical rain forests) that are still decreasing in size due to clear-cutting.

Also, could you provide dimensions of the display tank? What it will be?

Looks great!

Those look like fir 2x4s

I would do a french cleat single door in the middle. Make it easy to open up and no showing hardware or hinges to rust.

Trees are a renewable resource. Now lets talk about all the things you buy and use on a daily basis that are not.
I do a lot of work with Koa. It only grows in Hawaii and is illegal to cut down. Only fallen trees are harvested.

I tried to buy some once. WOW! That's some expensive lumber!

Beautiful though.

Tank is 72x30 wide and 25 tall. It’s actually a 225 but my wife thinks it’s a 150. I am not too worried about what people think about using trees and cutting them down. That’s why I just ignored him. I got 300 acres of trees and the deer eat more than I can ever cut. That’s why I hunt them too.

Got the face frames made and was able to close up both end cabinets with plywood. I just did half sheet of ply for the bottom of the center cabinet. Not sure where to drill the floor holes yet. Going to make the doors tomorrow and then I can fill the screw holes and get ready for painting. Then I need to make a new sump and a new work bench to hold the sump and all of the other stuff that I am sure to pick up along the way in this hobby

Oh hell I got bored and decided to just finish off the doors as well..I wanted one door just because it would be easier, but My wife wanted two doors so thats what we (she) decided to do. Again I just keep remembering that I told her we were getting a 180 tank and then I got the 250 and she still does not know so she gets to make these little decisions. I will trim them down to size tomorrow and call this done...........

I knew you would dig it as do I.

Any good woodworking project is a joy to watch come together, no?

Without a doubt. I need to start something soon. It’s been too long.

If I didn't have a whole golf bag of irons in the fire, I have some reclaimed barn wood that needs to be turned into a floating entertainment center...
