Hi there,

my phosphates have been slowly creeping up and I’m starting to see some very short GHA in my tank.

I’ve got a chaeto fuge on a 12hr reverse cycle and it’s growing very well, I remove a handful a week.

When phosphate started creeping up from 0.02 to 0.05 I stopped all pellet food and only fed frozen cubes.

Phosphate now climbing from 0.05 to 0.09.

Started getting GHA in my refugium but I scraped and symphoned it out.

My nitrate is stable at 2ppm.

Can I run a small volume of phosphate remover to keep phosphates in check? Will it cause any detrimental effects to my chaeto?

feeding
I have 9 fish, I feed 3 cubes of frozen food a day (they get 2 mysis and I alternate mussel and brine on different days)and change filter sock every 3 days. I also feed 6mL a day of RedSea reef energy AB+

Yes, you can use GFO and macroalgae at the same time. I did.

Just be sure to not drop phosphate too low.

Whether that decline will help with algae is a different question. It may, or may not.

Thank you. I’ll check the manufacturers recommendations and work out the volume to use.

Hopefully it will at least slow it down so my CUC can eat it!
