HI,

I realize there is an extensive thread on Vibrant, but I could not find my problem.
I started using Vibrant about 2 weeks ago to deal with turf algae, dinos and cyano.
The tank is from an upgrade from about 8 months ago; some established rock and sand from previous tank.
So, it may be that it's still rebalancing, but the algae issue has been going on for some 5 months now.

Problem: after dosing for 2 weeks I have really high nitrates (30 on Salifert).
I have done several 30 to 40 % water changes (150 gallon tank). No affect.
The vibrant has actually worked wonders on all 3 problems, most notably on the turf algae.

Is this just a question of more and larger water changes?
Will the high nitrates continue as long as I am using Vibrant?

Phosphates are .03
Other parameters stable (alk - 8, calc 420, mag 1400)

thanks

Your nitrates were stored in the algae, now that it's dying its being released. As long as new algae is dying nitrates will continue to go up. It's normal with die offs. Think of it as a fish dying in your tank it's going to pollute it.

Water changes will help but what will help even more is removing the dying algae before it pollutes the tank.
