Hello all,
I have noticed my spotted yellow Eye Kole tang has new brushing off the PVC fittings for the last few days and today I saw these white spots on the tail and some on the head face area. Can anyone here help. I do have polyplab medic on hand and wanted to know how to treat this. This is the my first time experiencing this.

No I bought this fish on Jan 7th and it has been in QT since then. I have been watching it and it has been doing fine until last few days I have seen it rub off the PVC and then some times at night would try to swim directly in front of the flow pump and now I just saw these white spots. I haven’t treated anything yet and my LFS always keeps their fish in copper with 1.015 salinity.

Were they able to prove that? Never believe your fish have been properly quarantined unless you've done it yourself. In most cases (not all, but most) the LFS will tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale.

Should I start using medic as that’s what I currently have on hand.. from polyplab
I'm not familiar with polylab medic at all. Sorry. Let's see if #reefsquad has more info.
Copper power is what I'm most familiar and had great success with.

Appears to be Cryptocaryn also called Crypto. This is a disease caused by the parasite Cryptocaryon irritans which bores into the fish’s skin and even gills. The parasite is then covered with mucus produced by the fish as part of the fish's natural defense mechanism. It appears as white-spot disease. You may also see the spots on the eyes of the fish or on the fins or tail. In addition, the parasites bore into the gill structure, causing respiratory difficulty for the fish and causing them to scratch on pipes as you mention.
you will have to follow the FALLOW method of no fish for 72 days if it applies to show tank. Leaving the tank fallow for this length of time, should break the life cycle of the parasite and prevent future outbreaks once your fishes are returned to the tank.
Treatment of the affected fish usually involves some or all of the following procedures:
· Freshwater dips dosed with methylene blue plus formalin
· Lowering specific gravity (hyposalinity) @ 1.016-1.019) of the quarantine tank
· Continuous exposure for at least 28 days to 0.15 to 0.20 ppm copper, although copper in and of itself can have long-term negative effects
· Antibiotic feeding to prevent secondary infections

Also when using copper read the label. Different types of copper have different therapeutic levels. Ie copper power is about 2.0 whereas Cupramine is more like 0.5.

so don’t just peg to a number because one of us posted it (even me!). Search for threads by @Humblefish or @HotRocks etc that discuss the exact product... also buy a copper test kit. There’s a thread somewhere here that lists which kits work well with which brand of copper meds (turns out some are incompatible)

good luck

I agree it looks like either ich or velvet...too fuzzy to tell for me.

Copper would treat both. If it's ich (Cryptocaryon), there are other options.
