I got a watchmen goby a couple of days ago and he looks a bit rough. The 1st day he ate well and just did bis thing but now he's open mouth breathing and just seems rough. We have him in a separate area to make sure he's eating. Is this normal?
I haven't checked the Hanna checkers yet, they were all within normal range before we added him. Screenshot_20240102_183527_APEXFusion.jpg

This is probably not water quality related. It isn’t related to acclimation because the fish was adapting well at first, but now is going downhill. That leaves some fish disease as the issue. However, rapid breathing is a common fish disease symptom, so I can’t tell you which disease might be the cause.
Can you get a clearer video? This one looks like it was taken through a holding net?

You could try a freshwater dip in case it is flukes:

Hi Jay

This video is better I believe.
Sorry - the surface agitation makes everything all wonky. It’s possible I wouldn’t see anything of note anyway, sometimes all I can do with videos is rule out some issues.

Hi Jay

This video is better I believe.
Pic somewhat fuzzy but fish looks thin and may be from illness or even edema in which it feeds off its liver and continues to weaken
Need clearer pic under white light intensity
Is fish breathing normal or elevated?

Very good video but unfortunately this fish is too thin and moribund and will not be able to swim or eat normal and there is no medication that will reverse this. Wish there was better news. Likely feeding offf its liver this whole time

Thanks for the input. I definitely need to do better at evaluating the dish before I purchase.
Appreciate you!
