I'm looking forward to hearing people's opinions on this. You can do more than one. But the things that aren't usually what people go for that you have that you would recommend to someone. I worded that in such a complicated way :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Santa Monica surf 2 algae scrubber - I was able to eliminate water changes, my skimmer, and filter socks. Game changer. It handles my full filtration needs

Used to watch LA Fish Guys on YouTube before I got in the hobby and he sung their praises all the the time. Seems like they have been doing it a long time (Santa Monica)

Also: I LOVE my Quanta Pro Tropic Sun fixture. It turns off, it turns on, that's literally it, but it gives me a nice daylight peak photo period and my animals seem to love it. They're also very high quality with a really long cord. Great customer service too. It's one of the few pieces of equipment on my tank that I don't need to fix periodically because it does its job with no frills. I can understand the old timer's annoyance with apps and buggy wifi haha

Old pic but you get the gist of the color

I’m not going to derail the thread, but if anyone wants to know about my setup or experience with scrubbers, or the low maintenance that this tank needs, feel free to read my build thread or send me a dm. I’ve been using this scrubber on my reefs since 8/2013.

This tank I put photos of has been running over 2 years without water changes, and I took my skimmer offline over a year ago. It’s never had socks or filter rollers or mech filtration. It’s been thriving and growing corals and needs 5 min each week for “work” including scraping the glass.

I have a 20 year old turkey baster that’s still going strong. Basted like 50 turkeys with this thing and then cleaned my rock and then blew the leaves off my sidewalk. Hope I get another 20 out of it because I noticed they’ve gone up to $4 on amazon these days.

2 days ago I finally changed out my Sicce Syncra Silent 4.0 return pump. It’s been the heartbeat of my tank for 4 years. Never had an issue and it’s as quiet now as it was on day 1. Quite happy to have replaced it with another, exactly the same.
