Anthony, what do you consider cooler temps in closed system 74-75? or cooler?actually...many zoanthids are ankle deep water. Zoanthus species in particular tend to be rather shallow. Its one of the few zoas you will commonly see around Acros on the reef. Palys and Protopalys instead tend to be deeper water. But water temps don't vary much. In the coral collection zones its not uncommon for the water to be steady in the first 80ft! (essentially most of the zone for zoox-symb cnidarians).
Manipulating temps is more about closed system finesse. It's generally safer slow bacterial growth in high organic systems) and better (more dissolved oxygen and usually higher redox) to run cooler temps versus higher.
Our tanks run between 78-80.
77 any higher and notice algae grows faster on front glass
I keep mine at 75-76 during the winter up to 79-80 during the summer.
