actually...many zoanthids are ankle deep water. Zoanthus species in particular tend to be rather shallow. Its one of the few zoas you will commonly see around Acros on the reef. Palys and Protopalys instead tend to be deeper water. But water temps don't vary much. In the coral collection zones its not uncommon for the water to be steady in the first 80ft! (essentially most of the zone for zoox-symb cnidarians).

Manipulating temps is more about closed system finesse. It's generally safer slow bacterial growth in high organic systems) and better (more dissolved oxygen and usually higher redox) to run cooler temps versus higher.
Anthony, what do you consider cooler temps in closed system 74-75? or cooler?

Thanks

i run at 79-80 by choice. as long as its stable IMO you can run all the way up to 82 and very little problems.

I would guess most would say somewhere in the 76-80 degree range. With it being as stable as possible.

I try to keep my tank at a stable 78 degrees. It has been alot easier since i upgraded to a 125 and moved it to a lower level in my house. I had my 90 cube go up to 92 one day and cooked the tank:cry:

Depending on the season, in the winter my tank runs from 77.5 in the morning and up to 80 in the evening. I would love to be able to use some fans during the summer months but the humidity in my basement is high enough already. So i use a portable AC to keep my temp around 80 in the summer. The important thing is to try to keep the temp as constant as possible. But a variation of a few degrees won't hurt.

77 any higher and notice algae grows faster on front glass

Out of curiosity, does anyone else see this? lately I've been seeing more algae growing on my glass than I'd like, and if there are easy ways to reduce that I'd be all for it. I'm at 78.5 now, give or take.

Forgot to mention that I use my Apex to vary this according to the daily average temperature of the tropical reefs.
