Which one should i go with? watching brs video saying too big of a skimmer won't operate properly. So what do you guys recommend?

Look at their recommendations:
BRS Recommended for tanks up to:

  • Heavy Bioload (Most Common) - 100 Gallons
  • Medium Bioload - 150 Gallons
  • Light Bioload - 210 gallons

I ran a Tunze 9430dc on my 80g + 30g for a total of 120. The thing is a beast. Run it in 4" of water.
I dont follow the skimmer is too big theory. The Tunze is rated to 925g's and is good for a full acro system of 270g's. It worked real well on said system and my old 120 tank.
Turn it on and empty the cup when needed. Very underrated skimmer that needs no adjustment. It is as set and forget as they come.
Pricy but worth every penny, imo.
When I took the 120 down I ran it on the 30 and it still skimmed with no issues.

If you have the room for it go with a Tall Venturi Skimmer. If it has to fit under the stand get whatever needlewheel fits your budget. I would always recommend a used with Skimmers, there has not been much technupgrades to skimmers in the last decade

Seconded, I went from needlewheel to venturi and never looking back. My skimmate is nastier and darker, they‘re compatible with any pump that meets the minimum requirements, and their performance stays dialed in at any water level in the sump.

Lifereefs are pretty much the standard. I have the X-flo 6-3.5 on my 180 gal and it’s done incredibly well.

Lol I have the xflo 3.5. on my frag tank it’s a beast for a short skimmer. I would look for Tall Lifereef. Older aqua medic t500o, any tall etss or downdraft can easily be convertEd to a Beckett , I have several old mrc quad Beckett and love em. All of those way better than any needlwheel.
