We prepare for water changes, some of us disease, power outages and temperature changes.
Many of us dont expect this while we are watching Tv or making a meal ( see video below). What would you do if suddenly this happened?

I'd be interested in what the stand looked like before that happened

Turn off the circuit breaker cry in anger then try and get fish into a spare tank. Then get as many towels as possible dry up as much as possible shop vac. Ask the wife for another tank assuming she didn’t file for a divorce. That would cause a lot of damage 90 gallons is a lot but my 210 with sump would be one heck of a project to clean.

I have a smaller tank on the ready, as well as 27 gallon containers, my back up plan would be of course to salvage any water possible, put damp paper towels over all rock, I have enough power heads and heaters for several different containers, and hope for the best. THEN, start vacuuming up the mess. of course first in line is to kill power, I have that set up for 2 switches to kill everything.

I would clean up and make a decision as I would be devasted and sick to my stomach. In reality, another tank would be in order.
Seeing this has encouraged me to be on the lookout for a cheap 75-100g tank to keep in basement as an emergency tank to salvage livestock.

That would be a tough call, all the waters on the floor.

I've broken my tank before when I was doing work on it. Relatively slow side leak, aluminum taped and grabbed a bucket. Luckily I had a decent sized lighted fudge section so most everything went in there.

If I didn't have any water made up, I would sop up as much water with towels and cover my corals with that. Fish would be a challenge.

If I had water made up, I would bring up the small spare tank from the basement and set it up.

Call me a skeptic but I'm curious why there was a bright flash of light when it happened. I also question how many people video themselves while watching TV :thinking-face:
EDIT: 3 million views. Yep I'm skeptical lol

I believe it was recorded on a security camera, and maybe the flash was something sparking from the water...? Not sure.

Same about camera in your living room LOL im like um why ? I just want to see my coffee table when im not home :) I guess maybe they have a dog or cat they worry about.
When I worked out of town gone sometimes 9-10 weeks I had one on my tank. I have 6 on the outside of my house but none inside.

In answer to question I might actually call it quits after I saved what I could. At least for awhile. I just remolded downstairs and that would be crushing.

Call Red Sea? J/k! :grinning-squinting-face:

I’d turn off the power, get the fish in another container ASAP, then deal with the mess. Coral probably wouldn’t make it.

Looks like screen door leading out to a deck.

Petco 50% off sale for a cheaper 75g tank

For other people who don’t have humongous tanks/fish but want a backup. The 40 breeder is smaller and also included in the 50% off sale. If you haven’t seen one in person, it’s a great choice and while it’s 40g, it’s functionally larger (swimming space not volume)due to its dimensions.

For backup/emergencies I keep a 40 breeder in my garage, and a few of these heavy duty bins in various sizes (38 and 55 gallons). They aren’t expensive, have a lot of volume, and the walls are thick and strong
