Curious what everyone's thoughts are here. I've had this solo banggai cardinal fish for over a year and recently noticed it laying eggs and holding the clutch in its mouth... not really sure what to make of it. It doesnt have a mate. Anyone else ever seen this before?

Video and pics.

Right color/shape/size to be a clutch of eggs, how sure are you that there isn't another banggai in that tank?

Its uncommon but females can/will spawn without a male, and pick up/carry the eggs for a short time.

Time to add a male to the tank and make some baby banggai! Just make sure you put on some smooth music, dim the lights, and light a few candles around the room when you add him to the tank...

How long does it take for the prolapse to go back in? She looks really uncomfortable. Also for sure no male in the tank.
Hey! What ended up happen with your cardinal? I have a solo cardinal that appears to have laid eggs. They are hanging out near her vent though. She hasn’t tried to move them to her mouth. Curious what happened with yours.

Mine is fine back to normal. Only one set of eggs which she ate shortly after birth like 2 hours after. Prolapse improved overnight.
