White sponge looking things on coral.

Hi. I have noticed these white things growing around my tank and on some corals. I've been running my tank for about 5 months now. The coral closed due to the time of day this picture was taken, but usually opens up nicely throughout the day. Is this bad? Thanks for your help.

Thank you! Planning to post some pics once I get everything stable! Changing my sump and redoing plumbing! I now remember what caused me so much grief in this hobby lol. I'm older now and have more patience!

I would watch out though...
I cut off any q-tip sponges I find. They can be a real eye-sore if the population gets out of control. They dont hurt anything but its annoying.
