special grade pre rinsed, not special grade out of the bag. lots of threads show what happens if you don't pre rinse that sand. lots of threads also show what happens if you do, and 100% of those are positive threads. take it in sections in a small bucket rinsed in tap water over and over until totally clear, it'll take a shocking while.

then when that section is clear, rinse in saltwater and then keep that cleaned lump in another bucket as you add in clean lumps until it's rinsed and ready. then install that final product and you will like the tank 100x more.

It works but I do suggest a smaller grade. Personally I prefer Fiji pink as it is better for all burrowing fish and causes far less cloudiness in my experience.

Hybrid of both sands also works.

I use fiji pink as well. I personally wouldn’t want anything larger, grain size, than that.
